Life at OneUP
Events
OneUP has many exciting events that instructors, the Japanese staff and clients can enjoy throughout the year. We organize these events to inspire and motivate our clients and to provide them the opportunity to use English and have a good time outside of a classroom setting.
Sakura Night
This formal event is a chance to get dressed up and go to the renowned Happo-En Japanese garden and event space in Shirokanedai to enjoy a splendid night of cherry blossom viewing from an elegant banquet room and its spacious balcony.
BBQ Bus Tour
In August we pack up all the BBQ utensils, food, and people into 3 or 4 buses and drive out to the countryside to enjoy a day of sun, fun and lots of delicious barbecued food. This all-day event is a wonderful chance to escape the heat of the city and enjoy summer surrounded by nature.
Undo-kai (Sports Day)
Our clients get a chance to relive their school days by teaming up with staff and instructors to compete in various athletic games and events at our Sports Day festival. Afterward the winning team can celebrate their victory and the other team can forget their sorrows at a drinking party held at a Japanese izakaya.
Halloween Party
In October, staff, instructors and our clients dress up in scary and fun costumes and celebrate at either of our elaborately decorated Ebisu or Shijuku schools. Costumes are a must as clients, instructors and staff all compete for “Best Dressed” awards that come with wonderful prizes.
Christmas Party
Each December, our Christmas event is held in an upscale restaurant in a trendy area of Tokyo. All attendees participate in a “Secret Santa” gift exchange and are guaranteed to bring home something special.
Feel English!
Held approximately once every two months, Feel English is an event put on in conjunction with the pub chain, HUB. Here clients, as well as prospective clients, come to drink, eat and share their opinions on a discussion topic in English.
Instructors’ Appreciation Day
OneUP holds a party exclusively for its staff (Japanese staff and instructors) to show its appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
Japan Bus Tour
Another event exclusively for staff and instructors, the Japan bus tour is held every other year and takes everyone on a journey to explore different aspects of Japanese culture. This is a great chance for everyone to get to know each other better and spend time together outside of a work environment.
Japanese Lessons
Japanese lesson are offered once every two weeks by one of our dedicated Japanese staff members. There are three levels of classes offered – beginner, pre-intermediate and intermediate. The aim of the lessons is to introduce grammar and vocabulary and practice them in conversation. Classes are held in the Ebisu school conference room, where instructors can practice using Japanese in a laidback and encouraging atmosphere.
