My Hobby

A hobby is something that you enjoy doing, but it’s also something you get better at the longer you do it. My hobby is drinking beer. Some people might think that’s a joke, but it’s true. I’m really into craft beer. When I drink, I almost always try beers I’ve never had before. I visit many craft beer bars all over Tokyo and I go to several craft beer festivals each year. With each drink, I’m slowly becoming a beer expert!

Everyone knows the major Japanese breweries like Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo. But few people know about Japan’s many great craft breweries. Big brewers all over the world usually only make one style, a lager. But there are so many different types of beer, and craft breweries are famous for experimenting with unique flavors.

In Tokyo you can find many great craft beers from Japan and overseas on tap in bars or in cans and bottles in specialty liquor stores. Some of my favorite Japanese beers are made by Minoh Beer in Osaka, Shiga Kogen in Nagano, and Ise Kadoya in Mie. There are great festivals in the spring and fall at Yokohama’s Osanbashi Hall and Saitama’s Keyaki Square. Why don’t you try some of Japan’s great beer?
