What Should You Not Do on a First Date?

Many people enjoy going out and meeting up with potential suitors but the first date can be a lot of pressure. It is hard to find a balance between what is too little and what is considered too much for a first date. While going out on dates is fun, it can also be a very awkward experience. We tend to put too much pressure on ourselves when we are meeting someone that we’re romantically interested in for the first time. I think choosing the right place is important. Therefore, one thing that we should not do on a first date is choose an inappropriate spot. Sometimes we go too extreme and pick something more suited for an anniversary dinner, and sometimes we also go too casual and select something one would only visit if they were hanging out with friends during high school.

Also, if you’re going to make the date an activity-type one, then don’t choose something that suits only you. Make sure to find out what the other person is interested in before selecting an activity. Not doing this sends the wrong message. It gives the impression that you don’t care much about knowing what the other person wants. One may also think that in the future you won’t be interested in compromising on issues. That’s not a desirable quality.

Another thing to avoid doing is sharing too much information about past relationships. We don’t want to be seen as lacking discretion. In the future, should the relationship work out and you’re committed and possibly married, then such a discussion might be appropriate. However, it should be within reason, because if you divulge too much it can make someone think you’d do the same to him/her were you to split up later on. Knowing what to do and not to do on a first date can be a bit of a challenge.
