Talk about a really bad movie you watched

I have unfortunately seen quite a lot of bad movies over the years, but when I chose this essay topic, the first movie that came to mind was Identity Thief, starring Patrick Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. I saw it with some of my family members, most of my siblings and my father at Brewvies, a movie theater with a bar attached where you can get beer or cocktails and drink while you watch movies. It is the only one in my state. One might imagine that a bad movie would be bearable if you had the balm of alcohol to make it more watchable, but you would be wrong. I hated the movie and found it a long, horrible experience that I could almost not sit through.

The story was really predictable and so you could see where the plot would go next, long before the movie ‘revealed’ the next steps. I thought that the character Melissa McCarthy played was particularly awful to me. The movie plays up her character as being loud, gross and fat in a really typical, boring way. It is clichéd and comes off as cruel and uninteresting, and the movie overuses clichéd, lame jokes. There was one moment in the film I can recall where the characters have a genuine moment with each other, where the Melissa McCarthy character is not just a typical villain but is a vulnerable human being, but that quickly gets thrown out as the movie progresses.

I spent the whole movie in agony, truly hating the film and becoming more bored and frustrated as the movie went on. I just wanted it to end. Even the prospect of more beer didn’t raise my spirits. I was too upset by the movie. After the movie ended, I asked my family what they thought of the movie and was shocked when they said that they liked it, that it wasn’t too bad. I was stunned into silence. Then when I told them how much I truly disliked it, I shocked them a bit.

I can’t recommend the movie, unless you have an enemy you truly despise and want them to suffer. In that case, it might make a good trick.
